Riftrate vs the CNN Fear & Greed Index

CNN’s Fear & Greed Index measures the mood of the US stock market; Riftrate measures the tension of world politics. Both use a 0–100 gauge, but they read in opposite directions: a high CNN score means greed, a high Riftrate score means crisis.

Reading them together

A geopolitical shock usually shows up in both: Riftrate jumps, and markets swing towards fear. But the two often diverge. Markets can stay greedy through a distant war, and fall into fear because of interest rates while the world is calm. Comparing them helps tell a geopolitical sell-off from an economic one.

The markets page shows what oil, the dollar and safe-haven currencies did after each crisis since 2018.
